The Design

Asprey's Inden range of small leather goods features a crosshatched leather skilfully prepared by an artisan tanner and printer in Japan. The technique used to produce this effect has been used for more than 400 years, and was originally employed for certain parts of Japanese Samurai armour due to its unique softness and lightness paired with flexibility and strength. This specialist technique is now only practised in Koshu, Japan, where the leather is tanned, dyed and silkscreened on site.

The smooth and glossy surface texture is achieved through the hand-pressing of a unique lacquer pattern, the lacquer being derived from tree resin. The pattern takes its inspiration from Asprey's signature crosshatch.
