The Design

A collaborative project in conjunction with TMB Art Metal of London, the Spitfire Pen celebrates the Royal Air Force's iconic aircraft, the Supermarine Spitfire, produced in time to celebrate the 80th anniversary of the Battle of Britain in 2020. A limited edition of 100 fountain pens has been crafted using Duralumin (a form of aluminium) originating from 1940 Battle of Britain Spitfire: P7350.

In celebration of the Spitfire's sleek curves, the pen's basic design features a gentle radius throughout, the cap being crowned by a propeller spinner, with the bronze clip in the form of a propeller blade. Every pen will be engraved 'Made of P7350' and limited edition numbered. The pens will be issued in a high-quality case fitted with a plate cut from ex-P7350 Duralumin skinning, engraved with the pen's details.

A suitable tribute to one of the finest and most iconic machines ever created, the Supermarine Spitfire. The polished Duralumin is very tactile to the touch, with a comforting warm feel. Due to re-using this 80 years old ex-Spitfire metal for a new purpose, minor surface imperfections from the casting process exist on many of the pens. We believe this only adds to their charm. In addition, the beautifully crafted rose-gold colour bronze clips have not been plated or lacquered, so will tarnish. We leave it to the proud custodians either to re-polish them to a bright finish or allow them to dull gracefully with age. The latter approach will ultimately result in a deep rich brown patination.
