The Design
The Asprey Gorilla Safe was inspired by John Aspinall's pioneering efforts to breed silverback gorillas in captivity at his private zoo in Kent. This exceptional piece was modelled in clay first, in order that a detailed mould could be taken from the original sculpture. A thick layer of pure silver is then applied to the mould using an electroforming technique.

The safe door has a fully functioning three-digit combination lock engineered by Asprey craftsmen. A glistening black finish on the gorilla's body has been achieved by the deliberate oxidisation of the silver which has subsequently been stabilised with a clear lacquer. Each gorilla safe has a production number engraved on the sole of its feed.
