Product Description

The Hammered range has been made for Asprey in the UK by a master glassmaker with over 30 years of experience. Each piece is first mouth blown over several stages, building up layers of clear and colored glass, finishing with an outer clear layer. Subsequently, the 'battuto' (meaning 'struck' or 'beaten') method of cutting is used to decorate the surface, using a diamond grinding wheel to mark the surface of the glass. The overlapping irregularity creates a faceted effect akin to fish scales or hammered metal.

Each piece is unique, and the intense hand labour involved in the battuto finish alone takes over five hours. The top edge of each vase is highly polished to provide a contrast to the matt finish of the body.
